Hey DFB family! 💎

I have a special announcement to share with you… I am engaged! In the words of Solomon himself:
“I found the one I love.” — Song of Solomon 3:4 NLT

Here is the story of how I proposed to my incredible fiancée, Megan.

Megan and I started our relationship long-distance, and we are still actively on that journey together. The last time I saw her in person was when she dropped me off at LAX airport on October 31st 2025, and the next time I would see her face-to-face would also be at an airport on NYE, December 31st, 2025 a few weeks ago.

I was flying out of COV airport in Turkey, the same place and the same exact seat where we had our very first FaceTime call when we started talking. I took a photo of where I was sitting; it all felt too surreal because in just a few hours, I would be asking her to take my hand in marriage.

COV Airport

She flew out from LAX to Milan, and I flew from COV to Milan. We met at MXP Airport, Terminal 2. On my way to Milan, about every thirty minutes or so, I would check the inside pocket of my jacket to make sure the ring was still there. Megan landed before I did and had to wait about an hour for me.

On my way to you

When I finally came through baggage claim and got an idea of where she was at, after some walking, I finally saw her at a distance.

Finding my lover in MXP

A rush of excitement hit me all at once. It was the most beautiful view of the most beautiful woman in all the airport. Airports witness reunions every day, but this reunion was in fact so different, especially since this one had a proposal in 6 hours, and the clock was ticking. By then, it was close to 6pm and we had a tight agenda. That’s when we ran into our first hiccup. We had trouble getting a train because we had issues getting tickets and once we got tickets, they were messed up, and we weren’t completely sure where we were going. It all felt like a slow-moving puzzle. Eventually we took a leap of faith and boarded a train heading in what we hoped was the right direction.

An unsure train ride

Halfway into our tram we decided to get off a stop and decided to cab the rest of the way to her new apartment. Check-in at the apartment took longer than expected, and we had dinner reservations that night, so we asked the landlord if we could wrap up and save the rest of the tour for another day. She agreed, and we immediately tried to get ready. Then we ran into our next issue: the shower water was freezing cold and would not get warm no matter what we tried. We each took the fastest cold showers, probably in history. From there, we got dressed and ran out the door. It took a while to get an Uber, and we were already running late until finally we got to our reservation an hour late. It started at 9 pm and we arrived at 10, but thankfully, they still took us in. The menu was different for New Year’s Eve, totally not what we expected, but we enjoyed each other’s company over our 3-course meal. We had to miss dessert though, because I looked at my phone and realized it was 11:30pm!

NYE dinner

“We need to get going.”

My plan was to propose right at midnight in Navigli, and I wanted our New Year’s kiss to be followed by the proposal with all the fireworks going off to celebrate the new year. We were cutting it close, so I calmly/urgently paid for the bill.

Midnight in Navigli

We power walked to Navigli for the fireworks and it was pretty chilly outside about 29F. Now keep in mind, I’m trying to remain calm but in my head, I was in a super rush to get there as fast as possible. My dream proposal scenario involved fireworks going off behind us while the moment was captured on video with my Sony camera. When we arrived, Navigli and as expected, was extremely crowded and we started off on the side of the canal that was not exactly romantic. The other side of the canal was clearly the side to be, but the bridge to the better side was jam PACKED with people who reserved their spots to get the best view for the fireworks.

I was getting nervous. Midnight was closing in. We needed to get to the other side and fast, with only 10 minutes till midnight. At that point, I figured if we could not get to the other side in time, I would just set up the camera right from wherever we were at. But delaying the proposal to another day was not an option.

OPERATION MIDNIGHT PROPOSAL was firing on all cylinders.

Against all odds, Megan led the charge and we somehow made it through the crowd over the bridge and made it to the other side. We walked very briefly to find a spot to post up, and surprisingly found a small open table at a section by a restaurant patio. I immediately started setting up my camera. It was five minutes until midnight and my heart was racing. The spot had a slight slope, so my tripod kept tipping over. It was also brand new, so I wasn’t familiar with how to adjust the legs properly or quickly. After some frantic tinkering, I got one leg extended longer so it could sit flat.

There were so many people that I couldn’t get the fireworks perfectly in the frame, but there was just enough space to see us. Megan started filming the fireworks on her phone, since they were going off early. I, on the other hand, was fighting for my life trying to mount my camera securely, but there was an issue. As I was screwing on the camera onto the base plate of the tripod, the camera strap kept getting tangled on the tripod. Midnight was seconds away and the camera was not secure, but I did screw the camera a few turns onto the mount, but the camera was clearly loose.

I finally thought: Screw it. If it falls, it falls. Also, I briefly considered that someone might steal my camera while I wasn’t looking, but it was too late for that thought. It was showtime.

Trying to set up the camera

The Moment

Megan and I locked eyes and we hugged. I pulled out my phone to check the time and at that moment, it had turned midnight, I showed Megan the time and we had our New Years kiss as fireworks exploded above us. It was now 2026, and I was seconds away from asking the most important question of my life. I told Megan to stay exactly where she was so I could see the view and frame of what the Sony was capturing. We were a little too close so I asked if she could scoot back slightly…. a little more… just enough… and PERFECT.

Getting the right frame….Perfecto!

I walked back to her, slowly grabbing the ring from my inner jacket pocket and hiding it in my palm. Everything was loud, fireworks, cheers, and music, but somehow time slowed down in the middle of all of it.

Grabbing the ring! ITS HAPPENING!

Now, the thing about Megan is that she has these piercing blue and bright glowing rings she calls eyes, and I get lost in them

Every

Single

Time

My heart melted as we looked at each other. Now this might not be words verbatim, but I do remember starting off with Megans full name, first, middle, and last, then I continued with “You are the woman of my dreams, and with your fathers blessing, how about we start the new year with forever?

Then I went down on one knee. I asked the question. “Will you marry me?”

She said YES.

Fireworks filled the sky, literally, and here we both were, starting a new year together, as fiancé/fiancée, with excitement and tons of adventure ahead of us. 01 January 2026 is a day and moment I will never forget. It’s amazing to watch how the Lord has been shaping us through our entire story. For a long time, before Megan and I started talking, I guess I really started to believe that marriage might not be something God had in the cards for me, that maybe having a life partner wasn’t part of my story. There would be seasons in my life where the thought of not having someone to do life with would crush me more than others, yet the outcome was always the same: I would feel discouraged, even though I knew I had an eternal God who loved me fully and was and is and forever will be more than enough.

God answers prayers. His arm is not too short, He moves mountains, He heals the blind, He brings the dead back to life, and His miracles are never ending. His faithfulness reaches towards the sky, as I am now engaged to the woman of my dreams. More than I could have imagined or asked for. An answered prayer to countless prayers I prayed for years when I thought they were just bouncing off the ceiling. A godly woman who loves me for who I am, and whom I love deeply.

To my dearly beloved Megan, I am so deeply in love with you. I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for us.
