All things Jesus and travel

The Search for truth

Athens, Greece 🇬🇷

John 14:6 NLT
Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’

Athens: The birthplace of philosophy, wisdom, and great thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. For centuries, people have debated life’s biggest questions here. But as I stood in this city, surrounded by the remnants of human intellect and ambition (and the delicious food), I was reminded of something the Apostle Paul experienced in the book of Acts, which I still can’t believe that I had the opportunity to walk through the very streets where the Apostle Paul once stood.

Paul’s Speech in Athens

Paul Preached here!

In the book of Acts, Paul wandered through the city and was surrounded by countless altars dedicated to various little “g” gods, each a reflection of Athens’ endless search for truth.

Acts 17:23 NLT: “For as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unkown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.”

Paul boldly stood on Mars Hill (Areopagus) and declared Jesus as the one true God, the very truth they had been searching for all along.. The Way, The Truth, and The Life.

In John, Jesus didn’t say, “I know the way.” He said:
I AM THE WAY

True wisdom isn’t just found in great human ideas, but in the One who created wisdom itself. I don’t want to spend my life searching for truth when Truth Himself has already been revealed.

Leaving Greece left me with a few questions:
What worldly altars am I still building? And where am I seeking fulfillment apart from Christ?

What “altars” are you still holding onto? Let’s reflect together in the comments!
